There isn't a person working in the knife industry today that knows more about the Tanto than Cold Steel® does. It was, after all, Cold Steel® who invented and popularized this knife style in the early 1980's. Cold Steel® has spent millions of dollars persuading the public, both through advertising and live or videotaped demonstrations, of the Tanto's many advantages. Cold Steel® has been producing Tantos for more than 30 years now, and there is still no factory or custom knife maker around making a Tanto that can approach the cutting, slashing or piercing power of one that is manufactured by Cold Steel®.

All Tantos in this series feature a deep lustrous satin finish on the hollow ground blade bevels and a contrasting line grain finish on the blade flats. This technique highlights Cold Steel®'s state-of-the-art grinding methods and emphasizes the Cold Steel® Tantos' unique appearance. In addition, these knives come with Cold Steel®'s famous flattened oval Kray-Ex™ handle. The oval shape provides a solid grip and resists rolling or twisting in the hand under hard use, the kind that, over time, would destroy a lesser knife. The use of Kray-Ex™ in knife handles is another Cold Steel® innovation. Kray-Ex™ is an unparalleled space age material that won't crack or rot and is immune to the ravages of bad weather. The tapered, solid steel pommel is another important Tanto feature that should not be ignored. Lynn C. Thompson designed it to concentrate the full force of a blow in a small area.

The Tanto series knives in San Mai® all come with a thick, high quality Secure-Ex® sheath that is sure to give years of hard service and keep your Tanto at your side, ready for action.

San Mai® comprises of three layers of expertly laminated stainless steel combined into one blade. Hard high-carbon steel is sandwiched between two layers of tough lower carbon spring steel, thus maximizing edge holding ability while still being able to withstand impact and lateral stresses. Produced in extremely small production runs, San Mai® is used only on Cold Steel®'s most collectible high-end fixed blades and is a registered trademark of Cold Steel® worldwide!

Kalter Stahl: Funktion und Qualität

PROS:
1. Sehr schnelle Klinge. Fühlt sich viel leichter an als mein Magnum Warcraft Tanto, obwohl sie die gleiche Klingenlänge haben. Wahrscheinlich, weil diese 4,7mm dick ist und einen Hohlschliff hat, während der Magnum Warcraft Tanto 5mm dick ist und einen Flachschliff hat.
2. Symmetrische Schleifungen auf linken und rechten Seiten. Die Klinge ist gerade und wahr vom Knauf bis zur Spitze.
3. Keine Oberflächenfehler.
4. Die Legierungslinie ist etwa 2mm über der Kante sichtbar und sehr sauber.
5. Scharf aus der Box.
6. Der verjüngte Stahlknauf ist ein Bonus.
7. Das ovale Griffform macht es leicht, die Kante ohne Hinschauen zu identifizieren.
8. Der Stahlhandschutz bietet Vertrauen beim Stechen in beiden Positionen (Stoß- und Überkopf) ohne darüber nachzudenken. Der Magnum Warcraft Tanto hat nur einen unteren Handschutz.

CONS:
1. Als sie neu war, war die Klinge unmöglich aus der Secure-X-Scheide zu lösen, indem man die Daumenrillen an der Scheide benutzte! Mein Workaround war es, den Griff in die Handfläche und die drei kleinsten Finger zu nehmen und den Griff mit Zeigefinger und Daumen direkt hinter dem Handschutz zu kneifen und die beiden Hälften der Scheide auseinander zu spreizen, während man die Scheide mit Daumen und Zeigefinger wegdrückt. Mit dieser Methode löst sich der Schutz ohne Aufwand von der Scheide. Jetzt, da ich sie eingelaufen habe, ist es möglich, sie nur mit dem Daumen zu entriegeln, wie beabsichtigt.
2. Versandkosten auf die Philippinen betragen fast die Hälfte der Artikelkosten! Deshalb habe ich für die Kategorie Preis/Leistung nur 4 von 5 Sternen vergeben. Ich habe insgesamt etwa denselben Betrag für diese und meinen Magnum Warcraft Tanto gezahlt, den ich auch gekauft habe. Wenn ich dieses Messer in den USA gekauft hätte, hätte ich 5 Sterne vergeben!
3. Genau wie der Magnum Warcraft Tanto, zu schön, um benutzt zu werden!

Hervorragendes Kurzschwert

Wie die meisten anderen Messer dieses Unternehmens kommt es messerscharf und einsatzbereit direkt aus der Verpackung. Ich liebe mein Cold Steel K-bar Tanto Messer seit vielen Jahren, und als dies verfügbar wurde, musste ich es einfach haben und habe es nicht bereut.
